After about 6 weeks filled with anticipation and eager waiting, the moment finally arrived: The architects unveiled their design for our dream home. Nearly perfect and precisely to our taste, the planned home presented itself, taking into account our needs down to the smallest detail.
With a total area of over 230m², our house will now be much larger than initially anticipated. Naturally, this change in size will also affect the costs and not just slightly exceed our original budget. We will share further details on this in a separate article and disclose the costs for the construction of a spacious single-family home in Germany in 2024.
The Design
The exterior of the house is characterized by clean lines and appears inconspicuous from the street side, as only the ground floor is visible. The facade is partially clad in wood, while large window fronts open the view towards the garden.
With two full stories, the house is generously sized, with the basement cleverly integrated into the slope. Here, there is a ground-level terrace that seamlessly transitions into the surrounding garden.
Floor Plan
Along the terrace, there is a large office space with room for three (or more) workstations, as well as two additional rooms and a fully equipped bathroom with shower, bathtub, and toilet.
In the rear part of the basement, which is embedded in the slope and therefore lacks direct window openings, there are the utility room, a separate laundry room, and a spacious fitness room.
On the ground floor, we find an open living area that seamlessly connects to the dining room and kitchen. Here, the living room can be flexibly arranged with a room divider to create a cozy reading nook. Separated from the rest of the ground floor is the private area with a spacious bedroom, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom with shower and toilet.
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedroom, living area, and kitchen offer breathtaking views of the garden and let in plenty of natural light. A loggia, accessible from all rooms on the ground floor, invites you to relax outdoors.
In addition to the main building, there is a double garage and a bicycle shed, slightly offset but still connected to the main building.
Only a small adjustment is planned: The area of the bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom will be expanded by half a meter to the left. This not only makes the space more generous but also enhances the view of the garden, as the large window front will be adjusted accordingly. The expansive window in the bedroom facing the neighboring property, on the other hand, will be executed in the middle as a wall, allowing for more privacy.
